If you’re puerile and filthy minded like me, then seeing a programme called Springwatch Home Movies (BBC Two, Thursday, 18 June, 8pm) will probably conjure up sordid images of Ms Humble & Co, writhing around in a drunken, fumbling mess after getting hammered in some local pub after close of shooting, and filming some steamy lensed sex video that would make an otter’s whiskers coil. Of course, the fact it’s being shown at 8pm should ram home the fact that this notion couldn’t be further from the truth, but rather, a little spin-off show to highlight a completely different kind of home movie.

One of the best aspects of Springwatch (and Autumnwatch) is how it interacts with the viewers. Naturally, the stunning footage of animals doing animally things and tiny cameras catching squeaking chicks is great too… but there’s something about the show that makes you feel like the screen of your TV has dissolved and you could almost reach out and touch the presenters or tickle the assorted beasts.

So, Thursday, we get to see our handiwork, with Springwatch cameraman Gordon Buchanan presenting a collection of films and footage shot by the viewers of the show. These contributions have made the programme truly ‘ours’.

Not only that, but Gordon will show us tips and rules of getting the best shots if you’re a budding wildlife snapper. Camera techniques and the like will be offered, so get out your pencil and pen and start taking notes. Or, if you prefer, kick back and just enjoy what other people have caught on film.
